When Do You Pray?

I have found myself praying and speaking with the Lord more often these days, I have had a lot of things weighing on my heart for myself and others. I know that in the past several years, my head and heart have not been on a godly path and that has a lot to do with my constant communication with God lately. I am learning that we should pray daily, we should be talking to God every day.

Lately I have felt the urgency to pray on a lot of occasions. A friend is awaiting the arrival of her baby boy. A friend got engaged to her father’s daughter for a 2nd time. A friend found out about an unexpected pregnancy. A friend’s wife is trying to change him to be what she wants him to be. A friend is going through a divorce. A friend is living in constant pain awaiting a procedure that will rid her of that pain. A friend is struggling to get pregnant. A friend is struggling with communication with her family. A friend has a medical condition with an unexpected diagnosis.

Everyone deserves prayers when they are struggling in life but you also deserve prayer as you are just living your day to day life. My eyes have been opened up wide and I have found that prayer has been the answer to a lot of my ongoing questions. You don’t know what to do, pray. You worry about something, pray. You want to help someone but don’t know how, pray. You just want to thank God for everything you have been blessed with, pray. I have found myself the minute that I find something out wanting to pray that person or that situation immediately. I want to give that person or thing my immediate support and assure that God is watching over them.

I have seen some amazing things happening around me in the past couple of months that I don’t think I would have witnessed if I had not found my faith again. So many wonderful things happen every day because of prayer so if you don’t believe that prayer does anything, I can promise you that it does. God hears every one of your prayers and if you believe then they will be. Prayer is a conversation with God, you may not get your answers immediately but God will answer your prayers in time. Prayer is not about instant gratification but about trusting that God will answer your prayers and knowing that.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Phillippians 1:6
And I am certain that God who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Phillippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Mark 11:24-25
Therefore, I tell you whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours. And when you stand praying if you hold anything against anyone forgive him so that your Father in heaven may forgive your sins.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

  2. Thank you for the reminder to pray often. I'm really bad about praying--it is something I need to work on. I'm glad you are learning and growing in your faith! :)
