My First DNR

I am sad to report that I have just had my first DNR (did not run) race today.

I had registered for the Charlotte 10 miler awhile ago and it was just going to be another training long run for me. I ran this race last year, it's on the McMullen Greenway and I really enjoyed it and was really looking forward to running it again!

Here's are some photos I took while running it last year.

Well sadly the weather was not in my favor, it had been predicting 100% chance of rain for the last two days. Well in hopes that maybe the weatherman was wrong I picked up my number and the t-shirt, because heck even if I didn't get to run, I surely paid for the shirt! lol

Well I got up at 6am this morning and sure enough it was raining. I checked the facebook page and the website for the race and they had announced they would still be holding the race.
They were only planning to reschedule or cancel if there was thunder or lightening.
Well I have to be honest, I did not plan to run the race if it was raining. First of all, I don't like to run in the rain, much less 10 miles in the rain and it's really cold today too! So I decided to not run, am I disappointed? YES, because they decided to give finisher's medals this year, SUCH A BUMMER! Plus the route is so beautiful and I just don't get the run that greenway much. But am I regretting not running, NO, I think I would have been miserable in the rain and cold so it's worth taking a DNR for.

The weather forecast predicts the rain to die off by this afternoon, so I am hoping to get my long run in on my own. Originally I had 14 miles scheduled for today but with the weather that is just not going to happen.
So I hope to get in at least 8 miles this weekend as my long run and I pray I can do that outside. There is no way that I will be running my long run on the treadmill.

Have you ever had to DNR a race?

Do you run in the rain?

  1. I DNR'd the Seattle Half Marathon since we were in Hawaii during the race. Good reason I guess:) I do run in the rain (seattle), but not the pouring rain. Not fun. Have a great run this weekend!

  5. I like running in the run, but only if it's warm rain. Cold rain? No.
