Thank you to all the sweet comments for my baby, Carly. She is doing much better, got her appetite back and she is back to her old self, playing and barking away!
I also received alot of questions about running in the dark, well to be honest, it's definitely not my first choice to run in the dark. BUT we have been having some hot temps here in Charlotte, like at 8pm, it's still 82 degrees and humid! I do not run well in the heat. So I thought I would try getting up early and running in the cooler temps and this week has been a success! Two days I was up at 5am and out the door between 5:15 to 5:25 am. And I have felt great all week! I haven't crashed and burned after lunch or anything. I am feeling really good!
So here are my thoughts with running in the dark, one of the only reasons that I feel okay running in the dark right now is because as I am coming back from my run, my sister is leaving for work, so she accounts for me making it back alive. Sorry to say it like that but it's a scary world out there and you have to be careful.
I leave her a note when I head out to run so that she knows when I left and typically I need to be back as she is leaving for work to keep me on time for my morning routine.
Another convenient thing is that my neighborhood is pretty well lit. There are street lamps everywhere and I make sure to only run on the sidewalk in the well lit areas. When I am running in the daytime there are several parts of the neighborhood that are vacant that I do run in, I make sure to avoid those areas since they are not well lit.
Also I have two reflector bands that I either put on my ankles or arms while I am running so that cars can see me. I wear light colored clothes so that I am seen and I don't listen to music, so that I can hear cars and other people or things. And I wear my fitness belt which holds my phone and key which I always carry with me while I run. I have the biggest fear of spraining my ankle or something and not being able to call anyone to come and get me lol
Today I got up a little later than Tuesday and ran a short 3 mile run. It was cool but balmy and I was dripping in sweat at the end of this short run.
See...sweat everywhere! lol
And then it happened....I went to get my key out of my ifitness belt while walking home from my run and my phone proceeded to flip out of my ifitness belt onto the sidewalk on it's face and literally skidded 2 feet ahead.
Yep the screen is all cracked up! Thank goodness for insurance! I filed a claim online, they are shipping me a new phone, it will arrive tomorrow and I will ship the cracked up Droid back to Verizon. The only thing that sucks is the deductible, $99, and sadly this is the second time I have replaced this phone. The first time was a few weeks after I bought it, I dropped it in a glass of water. I mean what the heck?! lol Oh well what can you do...gotta have a phone!
So I completed Day 3 of Marvelous Abs May today...sadly I haven't had time to get the other workout calendars in. In order to get my runs in and also load some miles on the bike, the abs are the only workout I can add to my load. But that's okay because it's a great workout and I am excited to do it! May is starting off to a great start and I plan to kick some exercise butt this month!

Ugh sucks about your phone but it is definitely good that you've got insurance! I don't think it's bad to run in the dark as long as you feel safe. I did the same kind of stuff as you when I would go running in the dark. I did listen to music though, but with only one earbud in, just like every other run that I do.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back. Safety first! ;) Sounds like you're being safe on your early morning runs.
ReplyDeleteBummer about your phone! I always worry about that happening when I try to take my (ringing) phone out of my pack on a run when my hands are sweaty. So far it hasn't happened...knock on wood...lol!
Great job on all your workouts!
that sucks about your phone! make sure you mix up your running route! be careful girl!
ReplyDeleteI've done that twice to my phone! Luckily my husband has just ordered parts online and fixed it for me. Still, not the best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI like all the things you do to be safe in the dark. I don't do well in heat either!
